The United Way of Southington is made up of ”Southington People Helping Southington People”.  Whether you have just a few hours to help with our annual food drive, or can volunteer on a regular basis to deliver meals to our homebound seniors, every minute helps. When you volunteer with the United Way of Southington, you are helping to make our community a better place for all.

Board of Directors

The United Way of Southington Board of Directors is made up of community leaders, business people, and residents who share our goal of improving our community.  As an active, working Board, our members give of their time and talents to support the United Way mission.  Consider joining our current Board of Directors in their efforts to make our community a better place for all.  Contact Us if you are interested in serving on our Board.

Volunteer Opportunities

United Way offers so many ways for you to support your community and volunteering is a an important component of our work. Every one of us has skills and strengths and special things we can do to help. And when we reach out to one, we draw more power to reach out to all—because helping is contagious.  The following events and activities are sponsored each year by the United Way of Southington.  Your time and assistance will help ensure our continued success.

  • January Dance City Fundraiser
    Help host our United Way Booth at The Dance City benefit performance produced in support of the United Way of Southington. Volunteer Today.
  • February Healthy Family Funfest
    Staff our United Way Booth at Southington’s Health Family Funfest and help spread the word about all the resources available through the United Way of Southington.
  • March Annual Dinner
    This is our largest annual fundraising event and the proceeds are used to support all the great United Way of Southington programs.  Volunteer opportunities include obtaining donations, selling tickets, event set up, and event coordination.
  • May Postal Food Drive
    The United Way of Southington teams each year with the U.S. Postal Service to support the annual Postal Food Drive.  Join the United Way Board as we travel the Southington letter carrier routes picking up food donations and delivering the bounty to Southington Community Services.
  • June Movie Night
    The Southington Drive-In is a community-owned, volunteer-operated movie theater.  Proceeds from each evening are distributed to the community organizations supporting the theater’s operation.  Join the United Way Board as we staff the drive-in theater one night each year.

  • June Day of  Caring
     Each year, United Way organizations across the country participate in a Day of Caring.  Join Southington volunteers as they visit our local elementary schools, reading to students and promoting literacy. Volunteer Today.
  • June Senior Lunch
    Each year, the United Way of Southington honors our local seniors by serving lunch at the Southington Senior Center and providing fun filled entertainment.  Join the United Way Board as we prepare a meal, serve and clean up, carrying on this very special tradition.
  • September Day of Action
    Each fall, the United Way of Southington joins other local community organizations for a Day of Action right here in our community.  Together, we can help local seniors with yard work and other minor home maintenance.
  • September Annual Fundraising Campaign
    Each year, the United Way of Southington reach out to local companies, organizations and groups to raise funds for its annual funding campaign.  Volunteers can serve as a Company Captain, help distribute literature, or advocate on behalf of the United Way and its role in the community. In addition, volunteers can serve the United Way of Southington  and its citizens by volunteering to lead a business/organization sector category during the yearly annual campaign.
  • October Apple Harvest
    Help staff our United Way Booth at Southington’s Apple Harvest Festival and spread the word about all the good work accomplished through the United Way of Southington.
  • November Festival of Trees
    This annual United Way holiday event features holiday trees decorated and donated by local businesses and community organizations.  Proceeds from the live and silent auction benefits the United Way of Southington and the local agencies and programs it supports.  Volunteer opportunities include obtaining donations, selling tickets, event set up, serving food, transporting holiday gift items and event coordination.
