About Us

One donation to the United Way of Southington supports Seventeen local agencies.

Our Mission

To facilitate a community-wide collaboration so that funds can be raised and assistance provided to organizations involved in human service programs in Southington, Milldale, Marion & Plantsville.

Our History

We trace our heritage back to 1926, when 15 volunteers in Southington signed a charter forming the Southington Community Chest. In that first year alone, $7,300 was raised to fund three local organizations: Southington Red Cross, The Salvation Army (which we continue to fund today) and the Public Health Association.

In 1975 the name was changed to the United Way of Southington—but the focus remains the same: Local volunteers continue to raise money to be used right here in Southington and the surrounding communities. Our assistance touches one of every four residents.

Our Family

There are now 16 independent United Ways in Connecticut, and 1,300 national and worldwide agencies. Overall, the goal is to effect long-lasting community change by addressing the underlying causes of the most significant local issues. At United Way of Southington we endeavor to help children achieve their potential, promote financial stability of local families, and improve health, healthcare and welfare for all.

To accomplish these goals we bring together people from all across the community spectrum—government, business, faith groups, nonprofits, labor and ordinary citizens–to tackle these issues head-on and make whatever changes we can for success.
