About Us
Our mission
To facilitate a community-wide collaboration so that funds can be
raised and assistance provided to organization's involved in human
service programs in Southington, Milldale, Marion & Plantsville.
Eight Decades of Caring
On November 15, 1926, fifteen Southington volunteers signed a charter
forming the Southington Community Chest. That first year those
volunteers raised $7,300 and funded 3 local organizations: Southington
Red Cross, Salvation Army and the Public Health Association.
Over the past eight decades, many local organizations received their
initial funding from the Southington Community Chest; such as Recreation
Park in 1929 and the 1945 allocation to the Hospital Corporation, which
later became Bradley Memorial Hospital.
In 1975 the Southington Community Chest changed its name to the United
Way of Southington. The organization had a new name but its focus did
not change; local volunteers continued to raise money that stayed here
in Southington helping people right here at home.
